Student Helps Form SADD Chapter - Submitted Story October 15, 2009
Students at Leake County Career & Technical Center have joined SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, and teen violence and suicide. Dennis Harvey, a Technology Applications II student, became interested in forming a Leake County SADD chapter, so he enlisted the help of Pamela Peoples, Career Counselor, who will serve as the Leake County SADD advisor.
The SADD students are hoping to find more classmates to join them in their efforts. The new group is also exploring ways to get support and funding from the community. Interest in forming the Leake County SADD chapter is a direct result of student participation in the Leake County School District’s partnership with the Smarter Choices Coalition to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking and Prevention Services at East Mississippi State Hospital and Weems Community Mental Health Center.

decisions related to alcohol, drugs, peer pressure, and behavior. It is a pledge to remain free from alcohol
and drugs, to never drive under the influence, to never ride with an
impaired driver, and to always wear a seat belt.
